Tributes have poured in for well-known East London DJ, Daryn Mildenhall, who has died in a Cape Town hospital.
He had been diagnosed with cancer and had traveled to Cape Town in March for specialised treatment.
In an interview with Algoa FM News, Karen, his wife of 20 years, said that as the days went by his condition deteriorated and it was confirmed that he had Covid19. Doctors placed him in an induced coma.
She wrote in a tribute on Facebook on Friday night that he could now be “with Kylie in Heaven looking down at me and watching me from above”, referring to the loss of their little girl two days after she was born on 10 May 2018.
“I know you are in a better place without pain or suffering! I have loved you with all my heart from the day we met till the end! Thank you for loving me,” she said.
Hundreds of people paid tribute on Facebook to Mildenhall who was synonymous with Numbers Nightclub in East London, one of the best clubs in the country to which he dedicated 20 years of his life to with Karen by his side.
It was also the venue for Algoa FM’s popular Decades Party, which managing director, Alfie Jay fondly remembers.
In a tribute to Mildenhall he recalls offering him a co-host position at the radio station alongside award-winning presenter, Gordon Graham, but, he declined the opportunity
“Daryn has been an esteemed client as Sales Manager for Renault in East London and a pleasure to deal with,” Jay said.
“Everyone at the station is in shock to hear about this development and join his wife Karen, their family, friends, and colleagues in mourning his loss. He will always be remembered as a bright shining light in East London.”
