Poor showing at EC gambling board public hearings

The Eastern Cape Gambling and Betting board says it is disappointed at the poor attendance at its public hearings on the proposed bingo gaming centers in the province.

Board chairperson Ncumisa Mayosi says they would have appreciated the public sharing their views about these up-coming opportunities.

The gambling and betting board kicked off the public hearings on the desirability of having bingo halls in Mthatha on Monday.

Various companies presented their proposals in hearings, but none have yet been approved.

Mayosi says they also visited all the sites for the proposed bingo halls.

"I would have loved to have seen this room full of members of the public, to have their views of what they think about this upcoming opportunities," she told Algoa FM News.

"We toured all the sites where applicants are proposing to operate bingo (halls) and we are satisfied that those sites will be impacted positively should any of those applications succeed," Mayosi said.
