An off-duty Eastern Cape policeman has been killed.
He was identified as 28-year-old Constable Andile Nojekwa who's body was found early Saturday evening by members of the community near Bethel College between Butterworth and Centane.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says Nojekwa suffered gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body.
He says the motive for the murder is not known.
In a twist, Manatha says another policeman will be charged with his murder.
"I can confirm that a 37-year old police official handed himself over to local detectives for the alleged murder of Andile Nojekwa. He has since been charged with murder and his due to appear in the Butterworth Magistrates court on the 10th of March." said Manatha.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man from Adelaide in the the Eastern Cape has appeared in court on a charge of raping a teenage girl.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Louis Stone, says the case against the man was postponed on Monday.
He says the suspect was arrested after family members of the girl persuaded her to report the matter, which allegedly occurred last Tuesday.
Stone says the suspect was remanded in custody until his next court appearance next week.
He's expected to apply for bail then.
