Police use rubber bullets to disperse protesters on the N2

Port Elizabeth police made use of rubber bullets on Thursday morning to disperse protesters on the N2 highway.

Peak morning traffic came to a standstill between the Cotswold and Stanford Road offramps due to an alleged protest by SMME's over the SA National Road Agency Ltd.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans earlier said police were at the scene to re-open the road and direct traffic.

He said their task was made more difficult by motorists stopping and taking photo's.

Labans said private contractors were called in to tow away more than ten vehicles which was used to block the road.
