Kariega police are appealing to the public for help in tracing the mother of a little girl who was left with vagrants in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the matter is being investigated by the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
She said the woman left the child with a group of people sleeping under the Van Vuuren Bridge on Caledon Street.
“The child who is about 4 or 5 years old was brought to the police station after the mother failed to fetch her," she said.
Naidu said the child does not have any information about her residence, only that she is known as Kayla Jacobs.
“Police are investigating a case of child abandonment and are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the mother or family of the child to contact Detective Captain Sone Van Dyk on 083 234 8126 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
