Gqeberha police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a police patrol came under fire in Walmer Township on Monday night.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says Flying Squad members were patrolling at the back of Sakasonke Village in G-West, Walmer, at around 9 pm when they noticed two men acting suspiciously.
The two men started running when the members approached.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says one of the men pulled a firearm and fired multiple shots at the police members who returned fire.
A 24-year-old suspect sustained a graze wound to the neck while the second suspect managed to get away.
The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment and faces a charge of attempted murder.
The Flying Squad members were not injured but the police vehicle was damaged.
