The National Minister of Police, Nathi Nhleko has officially launched the South African police service 10111 command centre in Korsten in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The launch formed part of the National Police Day celebrations in the Northern Areas suburb of the Metro on Wednesday.
Nhleko says the centre equipped with the Tetra system is aimed at improving police response time in fighting crime, improve police visibility in the City and the relationship between police and the Northern Areas community.
Nhleko says Tetra is able to track the location of the emergency call ensuring that the appropriate police cluster is deployed to the scene.
He added that the more infrastructure - such as linking up the Tetra system with city CCTV cameras to enable central monitoring by police - is in the pipeline.
Nhleko says the centre received about 1500 calls during the festive season and around 350 calls daily.
