Police issue warning to teenagers on Mxit

Eastern Cape police have issued a warning to teenagers and young adults to be vigilant of friends they meet on social networks.

The warning comes after a teenager alleged that she had been raped by a man named Kobus, whom she met on the social networking site, Mxit.

Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the Port Elizabeth girl arranged to meet the man at a spot in the city.

She then went with him to his house in Despatch where the alleged rape took place earlier in June.

Uitenhage police's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is appealing to anyone else who may have been sexually assaulted by the suspect to contact their nearest police station.
