Police at Peddie in the Eastern Cape are investigating a double murder and rape after the bodies of a man and a woman was found buried in shallow graves not far from the roadside.
Captain Khaya Tonjeni says the body of the woman was found by a community member around lunchtime on Tuesday when his dogs displayed interest in something at the side of the road.
The woman was between the ages of 30 and 35 and although the body was already in an early stage of decomposition police found that she had also been raped.
Captain Tonjeni says the body of the man, with visible wounds to the upper body, was found three days earlier in a shallow grave at Gcinisa village, Peddie.
No one has come foward to identify the bodies or open a missing person case.
The possibility of a link between the two incidents is part of the police investigation and Captain Tonjeni said there is a possibility that the victims are not from Peddie.
