A motorist believed to have drowned after his car landed up in the water in New Brighton Beach in Gqeberha has been found.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says several police units and the Nasional Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) were summoned to the scene on Saturday after a car was spotted, upside down and submerged in the water.
He says when the car was flipped over there was no motorist inside and the NSRI was called in to assist in a search at the backline of the shore.
Police divers were also on the scene looking for the driver.
Captain Beetge says after following up on several leads, police eventually tracked down the driver in Motherwell where he was instructed to remove his car from the ocean, at his own cost.
