Eastern Cape Police have arrested two suspects, including a police officer, and confiscated more than half a million rands worth of dagga, outside Jansenville.
Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the arrests were made on Monday when police acted on information about a vehicle en-route to Jansenville transporting illicit drugs.
A metallic bronze Toyota Fortuner was stopped on the R75 about a kilometre outside Jansenville and police found three bags of compressed dagga stashed in the boot.
Brigadier Kinana put the value of the bust at around R570 000.
The vehicle in which the suspects were travelling in was also seized for further investigation.
It was then established that one of the men arrested is a 33-year-old police Constable working at Jeppes Reef Port of Entry in Mpumalanga Province.
The two men, aged 33 and 38, are being held in custody and are due to appear in the Jansenville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of dealing in dagga.
