A 29-year-old police clerk has appeared in court in Port Elizabeth on a charge of perjury.
Her court appearance today is a sequel to an incident this weekend when a baby was left at the Mount Road police station.
Police spokesperson, captain Stanley Jarvis, says its alleged that Natalie Rall attempted to open a docket of child abandonment after a woman left the baby at the police station on Friday.
Rall was granted bail of 500 rand and will appear in court again on the 25th of October.
The baby boy, who is said to be a healthy six months old, has been taken to a place of safety.
Jarvis says a social worker will prepare a report on the incident for the Children's Court.
