Police are investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after chaos erupted at a rugby match in Jeffreys Bay this weekend.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said three players were stabbed during a match between PE Harlequins and Jeffreys Bay Rugby Club at Pellsrus Sports Ground.
She said as the match was about to end on Saturday, supporters invaders the pitch and attacked the Harlequins players.
Naidu said the injured players received treatment at the scene.
“Thus far only one case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm is opened,” she said.
EP Rugby has issued a sanction on the Jeffreys Bay club, suspending home games until the investigation into the “deplorable” incident was complete.
