Plans will be revealed today to address long-standing problems affecting schools in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas.

Representatives of school governing bodies and the ANC in the Northern Areas recently met to discuss teacher shortages that have been plaguing schools.

According to a joint notification, several stakeholders came together to determine a process plan to set the agenda that should ideally kick start a turnaround strategy.

This comes at a time when parents and teachers from all schools in PE's Northern Areas are planning picket protests for the next 48 hours.

They say if nothing is forthcoming from education authorities by Wednesday, schools will be closed indefinitely.
