A Lesotho national who killed an elderly resident at the Pinnacle Point Golf Estate has been sentenced to 37 years in prison.
Clement Kholoane, 40, entered a plea agreement with the state and was sentenced in the George Regional Court on Thursday.
The murder of 79-year-old Marietha Willemse sent shockwaves through the community of Mossel Bay when she and her husband were attacked and stabbed in their home in June last year.
Willemse's body was discovered in a chair with a knife wound to her neck while her husband survived the ordeal.
Johannes Willemse, 87, who lives with dementia, sustained stab wounds in the attack but managed to raise the alarm.
Kholoane was positively linked to the crime after his fingerprints were found at the scene.
For months he was on the run and a reward of R50 000 was offered for information that could lead to his arrest.
Police had a breakthrough several months later when they nabbed Kholoane in Wepener in the Free State.
He pleaded guilty to eight charges including attempted murder, murder, burglary, theft and breaching the Immigration Act.
