There was a strong police presence outside the Jesus Dominion International Church on Sunday where a large group of protesters managed to force congregants to leave the church so that they could shut the doors.
Protesters consisted mostly of members from the EFF and ANC who put their political differences aside for the day.
Several members from Cosatu and Saftu also came out in support.
Members of the JDI church eventually left in several taxi's, nearly two and a half hours after the protest started.
A Spokesperson for the ANC Youth League Luyolo Nqakula described the protest as a victory for the "anti-Omotoso" movement.
He praised the community for coming together and putting aside their "petty political differences" to unite against what he called a "genuine cause" of something that truly mattered.
Nqakula also warned that this was just the beginning of rolling mass action.
A spokesperson for the ANC Women's League Nomafa Sinetile referred to Omotoso as a lunatic and said they wanted to free the church and it's congregants.
"We are not mixing our words, we are saying that the church must be shut down" she said.
She added that they were there to save the church and it's members from Omotoso as they are concerned citizens.
The JDI Church who is lead by the Controversial Nigerian pastor Timothy Omotoso has three branches in the Eastern Cape including one in East London and one in Fort Beaufort.
The 60-year-old Omotoso is currently on trial at the Port Elizabeth High Court where he is facing a string of charges including rape, sexual assault and human trafficking.
