The N6 between Kei Road and Amabele outside East London has been closed in both directions after a petrol tanker caught fire in the early hours of Thursday morning allegedly after being petrol bombed by striking workers in the trucking sector.
The driver of the vehicle escaped unharmed when he came under atttack at about three o'clock this in the morning while driving through the area.
Members of the East London, Stutterheim and Amatola fire department are on the scene.
An East London fire department official said they would have to wait for the fuel to burn out and that it will take several hours before they are able to extinguish the blaze.
Police Spokesperson Captain John Fobian says the incident is under investigation
