Port Elizabeth perlemoen kingpin Julian Brown and his two co-accused will be sentenced in March after the state and defence concluded pre-sentencing arguments on Wednesday.
Brown's counsel, Advocate Terry Price, called on the court to consider applying the principle of restorative justice, saying that there was no violence involved in Brown's crimes and that sending him to jail would not make him a better person.
Price further stated how his client was a great help to the Walmer Township Community and that he should be allowed to continue with this service as part of his sentence.
The State prosecutor Martin Le Roux reminded the court that the charge of racketeering carry's a prescribed maximum sentence of direct life imprisonment or a fine of R 100 000 000.
Brown was convicted yesterday of racketeering and contravening the Marine Living Resources Act but acquitted on a charge of defeating the ends of justice and money laundering.
He will be sentenced with his co-accused, Eugene Victor and Branden Turner next month.
The trio will be sentenced on the 1st of March.
