Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a pedestrian was run over and killed on Stanford Road on Wednesday morning.
Police captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the 53 year-old man from Schauderville had tried to cross the road near Livingstone Hospital when he was hit by a taxi.
The man died at the scene.
Van Rensburg said the 24 year-old taxi driver will be charged with culpable homicide.
Meanwhile, rush hour traffic ground to a halt on the N2 in Wednesday near the Kempston road off-ramp after three cows were run over and killed.
Janse van Rensburg says the animals were hit in the early hours of the morning but a vehicle only became available later to remove the carcasses.
No-one was hurt in the incident.
