Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 51-year-old man for fatally stabbing his girlfriend in Booysens Park over the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the man and his 45-year-old companion, Nomzama Kokowa, were walking in Palmer street around 8 o clock on Saturday evening when he pulled out a knife and stabbed her.
She says he further assaulted Kokowa with a glass bottle and she sustained a stab wound to the neck and upper body.
Janse van Rensburg says he then fled on foot and went into hiding but police later arrested him in in Polar Park just before 2 am on Sunday.
She says the suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.
