A 51-year-old Port Elizabeth woman has been shot and killed as she struggled with one of three men trying to hijack their vehicle in Sydenham.
Police said the incident happened on Coventry Road at about 8.30 on Wednesday night.
Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says three men approached the woman and her 21-year-old son in the driveway of their home after he had picked her up from work.
She says the son was ordered to lie on the ground and hand over the car keys, while the woman, who went to close the gate, apparently struggled with one of the men.
Janse Van Rensburg says shots were fired and she was fatally wounded. Her son was not injured.
Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted.
Anyone who may have information on the case should contact Detective Constable Robin Meyer of the Mount Road police.
