A 25-year-old Port Elizabeth woman is due to appear in court on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old toddler from a Summerstrand beach.
The homeless woman was arrested on Sunday after police found her and the child, Nefrin Roberts. deep in the bushes in Victoria Park Drive following a tip-off.
It's alleged that the woman had struck up a conversation with the child's grandmother at a city beach on Friday.
The suspect, who introduced herself as Megan, first went with the grandmother to buy some alcohol and later offered to get some cigarettes. She took Nefrin with her but then never returned.
Police said the malnourished boy was taken to Dora Nginza for a routine check-up, before being reunited with his family.
