PE woman has lucky escape as bullets shatter car windows

Atlas Security

A Port Elizabeth woman had a lucky escape when bullets shattered the windows of her car while she was waiting at traffic lights in Cape Road on Thursday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the 50-year-old woman had stopped at traffic lights at the intersection of Greyville and Cape Roads when she heard a loud bang and realised it was gunfire.

“A driver from a white VW Golf was firing. The visibly shaken woman drove off and stopped a traffic official who was in the vicinity at the time. She reported the matter to him and thereafter drove to SAPS Mount Road,” Naidu said.

She said the back windscreen and back passenger window of her car had been shattered.

“Police suspect that the woman was not the intended target. She did not sustain any injuries,” Naidu said.

No further details were given but a case of attempted murder is under investigation.
