The Nelson Mandela Bay traffic officer who was gunned down in rush-hour traffic on Tuesday morning had served the Municipality for 33 years.
The Metro says 60-year-old (Dorrington) Zola Matiwane joined the Municipality in 1987 and had served in the Transportation Unit of their traffic department.
He died when a gunman wearing a balaclava opened fire on his official vehicle near Walmer Links.
A 43-year-old female passenger was wounded in the incident.
On Saturday another Metro traffic officer had a lucky escape when a gunman opened fire on his vehicle in Uitenhage.
The motive for both incidents is not yet known.
