Three PE toddlers who were reported missing sparking a major search which began on Tuesday night have all been found unharmed and reunited with their families.
Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major-General Dawie Rabie expressed his appreciation to all the officers and members for “going the extra mile” in the search for Linamandla Zenzile (3), Othandwayo Zenzile (4) and Nande Nombewu (3).
The search for them began when the boys from Unit 29 were reported missing after last being seen on Tuesday afternoon playing in an open field near their house.
Police said the first breakthrough came on Wednesday afternoon when Linamandla was found sitting on a weighbridge by workers at the Amanzi quarry which is situated between Uitenhage and Motherwell.
Uitenhage police were called in and the child taken back to Motherwell.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that the search immediately shifted to the quarry area where SAPS re-enforcements, community members and Metro Search and Rescue with their dogs volunteered their assistance to search the dense bushes.
She said the other two children, Othandwayo and Nande, were eventually found lying on rocks in the nearby quarry a little after 7 pm and some 7km’s from their home.
“All three children are at the Uitenhage hospital undergoing medical examinations.”
“It was overwhelming to see how the communities from all over the metro offered their assistance in whatever way possible to find these children,” said Cluster Commander, Major-General Dawie Rabie.
He also reminded parents “to be extra cautious and to know where their children are at all times.”
