Two Port Elizabeth teenagers have been arrested for murder in a suspected gang related shooting on Tuesday in which a pregnant woman was also wounded.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said 18-year-old Damian Erasmus was shot and killed by four men who stormed into a house in Lingihle Street in Bloemendal.
"According to police information, the 24 year old female who is pregnant entered the house through the back door. As she did so, four unknown men kicked the front door open and started firing into the house," Naidu said.
"Erasmus was fatally injured while the 24-year-old female sustained gunshot wounds to her stomach. Two other people in the house escaped injury."
Naidu said members of the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit, formerly known as the Gang Task Team, followed up on information and "a 17 year old youth was arrested at a house in Guava Street, Jacksonville."
"The 16 year old was arrested at a house in Barberry Drive in Extension 31 in Bethelsdorp. Police also confiscated a white Toyota Tazz at an abandoned house in Wallflower Street, Bethelsdorp. The teenagers are detained on charges of murder and attempted and will appear at the Nerina House Juvenile court on Friday. More arrests are expected," Naidu said.
