A 16-year-old Port Elizabeth boy accused of raping and killing a two-year-old in Soweto-on-Sea in October has been finally released into the custody of his mother.
The teen was held in custody since his arrest for his own safety after local residents threatened to take the law into their own hands.
However, officials now feel that the danger has passed and that it was safe to release the youth who was held at Nerina House.
The teen is accused of raping and killing the two year old whose body was found dead by the owner of a house in Serote Street in Soweto on Sea.
The youth was arrested the following day.
He is due back in court again on the 26th of January.
