A 19-year-old man was jailed for an effective 23 years in the Port Elizabeth High Court for killing a man and the attempted murder of his fiancé in Kleinskool two years ago.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said Siphelele Gxasheka, was sentenced on Tuesday following his arrest in 2019. He has been in custody since then.
Naidu said Gxasheka, who barely 17 at the time of the incident, was one of two men who kicked down the door of a house in Reconciliation Street.
She said 32-year-old Adrian Kammies and 29-year-old fiancé fled into a room after which the assailants opened fire.
He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the scene while his fiance' survived unhurt.
Naidu said Gxasheka was sentenced to 23 years for murder, 10 years for attempted murder, eight years each for house-breaking and the unlawful possession of a firearm, and four years for the possession of ammunition.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Naidu said the other shooter remains at large.
