An outing by staff of Port Elizabeth's Astra Primary School to a fun fair has ended in tragedy.

Police said a 45 year old teacher was killed when a rotating swing at the Open Sky Fun Fair, west of the city, collapsed on Monday.

Police spokesperson, warrant officer, Alwin Labans, says the deceased was on the swing with several females when it collapsed and part of the structure fell on top of him.

Labans says the name of the teacher has not yet been released.
