PE taxi driver gunned down in broad daylight

Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of murder after a driver of a so-called Jikileza taxi was shot dead on Friday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says the shooting happened in a street in Bethelsdorp Extensioin 35 after 1.30pm.

He says two men who got out of the taxi were involved in an argument with the driver.

Labans says one of the men drew a firearm and shot the Jikileza driver in the chest.

He died on the scene.

A search for the two assailants is underway.
