The six men accused in the Tsitsi murder case received hefty sentences in the PE High Court on Wednesday, a month after being found guilty of the murder of a Port Elizabeth policewoman.
On the 12th of November 2015 just after six am, 36-year old female SAPS Constable Nomathamsanqa Ivy Mtwesi was shot and killed in the driveway of her home in Motherwell after returning from a night shift she performed at her police station at Kwadwesi.
Her husband, 37-year-old Sergeant Mlungisi Tsitsi, was arrested shortly after her murder.
He was stationed at Motherwell SAPS and was arrested after attending her memorial service.
An investigation uncovered a conspiracy to commit the murder and a further five suspects were arrested.
Exactly four years after Constable Mtwesi's murder, Judge Irma Schoeman sentenced all six convicted men to 22 years imprisonment.
Tsitisi and his chief co-conspirator
Ndiphe Soqokomashe received an additional ten years for conspiracy to commit murder.
Judge Schoeman ordered that both of them serve a minimum of 25 years imprisonment each.
The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie applauded the sentence and praised all the role players and detectives that ensured a lengthy jail term for these murderers.
