A Port Elizabeth security guard has been wounded during a failed robbery at Cash and Carry Store on Moday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says that Fidelity Security officials entered the Commercial Road premises at around 05:15.
“One of the guards got out of the vehicle and entered the store. As he was about to get back to the vehicle, he was confronted by an armed suspect,” Naidu said.
“The suspect fired at him and the guard retaliated by firing back. An exchange of gunfire took place between the guards and the suspects, numbering more than five.”
Naidu says they fled on foot.
“The injured security guard was taken to hospital. Police suspect that one suspect may have been injured by the security guard. No arrests made and nothing was taken,” she said.
Colonel Naidu said that police were investigating cases of attempted armed robbery and attempted murder.
