The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation team in Port Elizabeth has arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the theft of truck tyres from a company during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the guard is the fourth suspect to be arrested in connection with the theft of the tyres.

She said he will appear in the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Naidu said Lunga Solomon(35), Thamasanqa Sitemele(35) and Bongani Ngele(37) appeared in court on Wednesday.

“Solomon remains in custody and will appear in court on 25 June for a formal bail application while Sitemele and Ngele were each released on R500 bail and will appear in court again on 18 September. Further arrests are imminent,” she said.

The investigation into the theft of the tyres worth an estimated R1.5m began in the early hours of Monday morning when police stopped and searched a car on the Addo Road.

Several truck tyres were found on a trailer and further investigations led police to the house of one of the suspects where more tyres were found.

Naidu said the manager of a company in Markman Township reported on Monday that a trailer with tyres was stolen from their premises.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General, Liziwe Ntshinga, has praised the investigation team and re-iterated that people buying suspected stolen property will be prosecuted if found in possession of such property.
