PE SAPS hunt murder suspects

Port Elizabeth police are searching for several suspects who shot and killed a man in Walmer Township and who are believed to have shot another man at a tavern.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that both incidents happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Naidu said that 35-year-old Enoch Mpfunde of Sakhasone Village was sitting in his car when he was shot by suspects at about 01:45 on Sunday morning.

She said he attempted to drive away but vehicle stalled about 50 metres on the corners of Goniwe and Qonqgothwane Streets in Walmer Township.

Naidu said the circumstances surrounding the shooting is unknown and police are investigating a case of murder.

She said a short while later a 28-year old male was dragged out of a tavern and shot several times by unknown persons.

“According to police information, the man alleged that he went into the crowded tavern at about 01:30 and was suddenly pushed to the floor by the suspects,” Naidu said.

“The suspects started to assault him whereafter he was dragged outside and shot. Suspects then ran away.  The victim was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to his shoulder, bum, thigh and chest,” she said.

A case of attempted murder is under investigation.

She said police are investigating the possibility that the same suspects were involved in both incidents.
