PE records second COVID19 death

A second person has died in Port Elizabeth's Livingstone Hospital as a result of COVID-19.

This was confirmed to Algoa FM News on Tuesday by EC Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba.

She said the person had died prior to the passing of a 66-year-old woman at Livingstone Hospital last week.

Meanwhile, the MEC also explained why the two Eastern Cape cases were not being reflected in the national figures.

She said the process of reporting is quite cumbersome, leading to delays.

Gomba said that is why the province decided to confirm the information as it's confirmed locally and becomes available.

She said the process following a death could be anything from an autopsy, test analysis or documentation that needs to be finalised in order to confirm that the patient indeed died from the Coronavirus.

Many patients have died from complications to COVID19 as they had underlying conditions such as cancer or diabetes.
