PE quad biker in court for assault and reckless driving

A Port Elizabeth man made a brief appearance in the city's Magistrates Court on Monday where he was charged with assault and reckless driving.

The 26-year-old Lourens du Toit was allegedly driving on a quad bike in Lorraine on Friday when an elderly man confronted him for allegedly driving reckless.

The 67-year-old was severely assaulted, allegedly by du Toit.

A video of the incident went viral on social media.

Police Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the 67-year-old man only reported the incident on Friday evening, due to the extent of his injuries.

du Toit is out on bail and will be back in court on the 24th of June.

He was arrested at his home in Colleen Glen on Sunday morning.
