Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality should devise strategies to deal with illegal electrical connections.
That's the word from the Chairperson of the Municipality's Infrastructure and Engineering Portfolio Committee, Andile Mfunda.
He was addressing a media briefing on Friday afternoon following a meeting between the Municipality and residents of Walmer Township following yesterday's violent protest over the removal of illegal electricity connections.
Mfunda says the Municipality should be working with the Department of Human Settlements in dealing with the Walmer issue.
"First thing the Department of Human Settlements must do is to finalise the layout plan of Walmer before the elections. We reached an agreement but now we need to provide them with electricity"
Meanwhile, its understood that residents have reconnected the illegal connections that had been disconnected on Thursday.
Replying to a question about this, Mfunda had the following to say.
"We do not condone the illegal connections, that is our point as the municipality, but again we understand they need services . We still do not condone illegal connections. We must work together to address this problem speedily" he added.
