Port Elizabeth police are searching for four men who robbed a coin dealer in Greenacres Shopping Centre on Tuesday morning of coins valued in the region of R1.5m.
No shots were fired during the heist and no-one was injured.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Alwin Labans, says 4 men entered The Scoin Shop shortly before 10 o'clock, pretending to be customers.
He says one man used a hammer to smash open a draw filled with valuable coins
Labans says the men fled in a white Corsa bakkie which was later found abandoned nearby.
They then jumped into a Toyota Quantum which was found abandoned in New Brighton.
Brent Starr from the Greenacres centre made the following statement
"The safety and security of tenants and shoppers continues to be of utmost importance to Greenacres Shopping Centre Management. This matter is currently under investigation by the SAPS and Centre Management is assisting the SAPS in this regard.
The Shopping Centre is operating as normal, however, the affected store has been closed to allow the police to continue with their investigation"
