Port Elizabeth police have launched a manhunt for five armed suspects who robbed a cellphone store at the Metlife Plaza in Kabega Park on Thursday.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says three men entered the store shortly after 10 am and ordered the employees to lie down on the floor.
She said one of them kept guard at the door while two others forced an employee to the back of the store and demanded that the safe be opened.
Janse van Rensburg said they then fled the scene in a silver Mercedes Benz with an undisclosed number of cellphones..
She said no one was injured and no shots were fired.
Meanwhile, Metlife Mall Management has commended the security company and members of the public who assisted during the robbery.
In a statement, the Mall said police were able to locate the suspects' vehicle through newly installed smart cameras at the shopping facility.
