PE police recover stolen tyres worth R4-million

Port Elizabeth police have recovered tyres valued at an estimated R4-million allegedly taken during a business robbery in Sidwell on Friday.

Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says it is alleged that about seven men entered a business property in Eveready Road and threatened the security guard on duty with a firearm.

She says they then drove into the premises with a truck.

The suspects took the security guard’s cell phone, the gate remote, two computer monitors and a trailer full of tyres.

A case of business robbery was opened, and on Saturday, Kwazakele police received information from a tracking company that they picked up a faint signal of the stolen trailer in Burman Road, Deal Party.

The trailer was later found next to a heap of tyres inside a warehouse.

Police recovered a total of 1 168 tyres.

No arrests have yet been made, and the investigation is continuing.
