Port Elizabeth police are appealing to the public to make use of the identification tag programme on their young children this festive season, specifically on New year's day on Friday.
New year's day typically sees a lot of young children being lost or separated from their parent on the main beaches in the Metro.
Speaking on the DMB on Algoa Fm on Wednesday morning,Captain Andre' Beetge said parents should make sure their children have a tag on their wrist with a name and the necessary contact numbers.
Beetge said the police would be handing out the bracelets free of charge and that the SAPS was confident this method would help them identify missing children and reunite them with their parents faster.
He added that police would focus mainly on Wells Estate beach and Hobie Beach where a high percentage of children have been reported missing in the past.
"What we have seen in the past when we talk with our policemen in some of these high volume times we even get 10 to 12 children being dropped off at these policemen and unfortunately that hampers our service delivery,Get your child a bracelet or some form of identifiable thing" he said.
