Three people were killed and another victim was injured in two separate shooting incidents in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, on Monday.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says in the first incident in the morning, 47-year-old Mbulelo Patrick Taaibos was drinking at a tavern in Ngono street where two men were also playing pool.
It is alleged that Taaibos bought a beer for himself and the tavern owner and that they then went outside to enjoy their drink.
Colonel Naidu says the two men who were playing pool then followed them outside and each produced a firearm.
She says shots were fired and Taaibos, who was trying to hide behind the tavern owner, was fatally shot in the head.
The 38-year-old tavern owner sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and the suspects then fled on foot.
The motive for the shooting is not yet known.
She says it is alleged that the trio was interrupted by two men who knocked on the window.
Colonel Naidu says the 29-year-old driver of the vehicle, Sonwabo Sobici and his frontside passenger, whose identity is still unknown at this stage, jumped out of the car and started running.
Both were shot multiple times and died on the scene.
The suspects fled on foot.
