Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 37-year-old unlicensed motorist in Central for the illegal possession of a large quantity of dagga.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says the PE Flying Squad and the metro police were conducting stop and search operations in hotspot areas in the area on Friday evening when they noticed a white Ford Fiesta trying to avoid the vehicle checkpoint.
She says officials succeeded in blocking the vehicle at the corners of Rose and Clyde Streets.
The vehicle was searched, and 92 packets of dagga with an estimated street value of 18 500 were found hidden inside.
Naidu says the vehicle was confiscated, while Metro police also issued the suspect with fines totalling R2 800 for driving without a driver’s license, using an unlicensed motor vehicle and for not wearing a safety belt.
He will appear in court soon.
