Port Elizabeth police have arrested three robbery suspects during an intelligence-driven operation in Kwazakele on Tuesday night.
Colonel Pricilla Naidu says it is alleged that the complainant and his co-workers were held at gunpoint at a supermarket in Soweto-on-Sea by several gunmen, who were inside the shop during closing time.
She says a substantial amount of money and cellphones belonging to the workers were taken.
Naidu says police later arrived at the premises and heard the sound of an angle grinder from the outside.
The complainant and his workers were found in a room, while the suspects attempted to flee through the roof.
The three men, aged 34,40 and 50, are being detained on a charge of business robbery and will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court soon.
