Port Elizabeth police arrested a 27-year-old man soon after a vehicle was hijacked in Kwazakhele on Saturday evening.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says a man was driving his silver VW Polo in Kwazakhele just before midnight when he was bumped from behind by another vehicle.
She says when he stopped, he was pulled out of the vehicle and a suspect drove off with it.
The partial registration number of the vehicle was circulated and soon after, members of the PE K9 unit spotted the vehicle in Central.
Naidu says a high-speed chase ensued on the M4 freeway, but Mount Road police members blocked-off the road at the corners of old Grahamstown and Ferguson Roads.
She says the driver lost control and swerved off an embankment, and the vehicle landed on its roof.
The driver was arrested for suspected vehicle hijacking as well as for reckless and/or negligent driving.
He is expected to appear in court soon.
