Port Elizabeth police have arrested seven suspects, aged between 17 and 28, for business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen property, following a robbery at a service station in Uitenhage Road, Sidwell.
Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg says it is alleged that the cashier was inside the shop when four suspects entered on Saturday evening.
She says one of them, armed with a firearm, took money from the cash register, cigarettes and chocolates, and also demanded cell phones.
The employees were instructed to lie down while they helped themselves with other items.
Janse van Rensburg says the suspects fled the scene and fired a random shot.
No-one was injured, and the cashier activated the panic button.
Information was later received that the suspects fled in a Toyota LDV, and while Swartkops police were busy with patrols at Fun village, St Georges, they noticed the vehicle and managed to arrest seven suspects.
Van Rensburg says police recovered a firearm, two toy guns, cigarettes, chocolates and biscuits.
All the suspects will appear in court soon.
In an unrelated robbery at a service station in Uitenhage Road, Algoa Park on Saturday, two suspects entered the shop with their faces covered and threatened the cashier with a firearm.
They demanded money and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No-one was injured during the robbery and no arrests have yet been made.
The police investigation continues.
