PE police arrest kidnapping and robbery gang

Port Elizabeth police have arrested three men and a woman on charges of kidnapping and business robbery.

This, after a Bangladeshi shop owner was abducted from his business in Algoa Park and tied to the Standford Road bridge on Monday night.

Police spokesperson, captain Stanley Jarvis, says the five member robbery gang then went back to ransack the shop.

However, he says however that a Magnum security guard, who spotted the man tied to the bridge, freed him and they returned to the shop in Dyke Road.

"They went to Algoa Park where they found the suspects packing items of value like cigarettes, laptops and flat screen TV's and were about to load it into vehicle," said Jarvis.

He says three men and a woman were arrested while the fifth suspect, who is believed to be the one that was armed with gun, managed to escape.

Jarvis says the suspect is known to the police and an arrest is expected soon.

He says the suspects will appear in court on charges of kidnapping and house robbery.
