PE mountain bike outing ends in tragedy

A young Port Elizabeth woman was killed and her husband injured when they were hit by a truck while mountain biking on the Witteklip Road near St Al-bans Prison in the Rocklands area on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans told AlgoaFM News that 31 year-old Sonnica Kensley was airlifted to Livingstone Hospital in a critical condition.

She succumbed to her injuries a short while later.

According to reports, her 29 year-old husband Clayton Kensley was treated in hospital and later discharged.

The young couple is from Greenshields Park in Port Elizabeth.

Labans says the 39 year-old truck driver is also from Port Elizabeth and was arrested on the scene on suspicion of drunken driving.

He is being held in custody and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday on charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol.
