A man who was arrested as part of an international probe has pleaded guilty to the possession and distribution of child pornography.
The National Prosecuting Authority says that Kerwin Budden appeared in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court on Wednesday.
Spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, says Budden's arrest came in the wake of the August 2019 arrest of Riaan Mans in Krugersdorp in an operation by South African police following a tip-off from the American FBI.
She says Mans had downloaded explicit child pornographic images, videos and chats through a mobile app.
According to Ngcakani he had confessed to police that he had shared the content with various people including Budden from Port Elizabeth.
She said police obtained a search warrant and in collaboration with America's Homeland Security found several child pornographic images on his cell phone and laptop.
Ngckani said in his plea statement, Budden admitted to sharing child pornography on social media platforms.
His case was postponed to 31 August for sentencing.
