PE man on weapon charges granted bail

A Port Elizabeth man charged with the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as the possession of two R4 rifles has been granted bail of R5000 in the city's magistrates court.

Forty-six year old Gary Corson of Van Stadens was arrested last week when police responded to a domestic violence complaint.

During his formal bail application on Tuesday the court heard that police recovered several barrels containing firearms and numerous gun parts at his residence.

Police investigator, Paul Roelofse, told the court that Corsen, who was previously a gunsmith in the army, had told police that he repaired firearms for different shops in the city.

In his affidavit, Corsen said he intends pleading not guilty.

The case was postponed until the 13th March for further investigation.

He also faces charges of assault and pointing of a firearm in a separate matter.
